I don't get any foreign movies in my country theatres ;; is it a happy ending? I might watch it later...
I've watched Maquia. Tbh, don't let the hype raise your expectations too much, that's kind of what ruined it for me when I watched it. My expectations were too high, and so the real thing flopped short of it.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie. The art is great and I love a lot of the side characters. World building is really nice too. It's the plot that's really lackluster. The movie tries too hard to be a tearjerker to the point where I literally anticipated every new scene before it actually happened. The two MAIN CHARACTERS lack sufficient depth and personality, whereas the side characters really outshine them. There were a LOT of awkward/cringey moments too with the whole mother-son dynamic.
I think it's reasonable to call the movie a disappointment if I took more interest in the side character's stories than the main ones lol.
Also, just a heads up, if you're a practical/critical minded person, the movie is saturated with PLOT HOLES.
Otherwise, if I were you, I'd just watch it anyway for the hella nice graphics/animation. I mean, I'm just one person lol. If you end up liking it, that would be the best outcome.
Very insightful analysis. I had a friend who watched it in theaters who said that the middle was meh but the ending... (that's all he said lol, didn't elaborate any further).
